Wicker Park Just Got a Hyatt — and Three URBN Stores

March 29, 2026🌆 Chicago, Illinois · District 1

A Hyatt Place hotel filed for food, liquor, and outdoor patio licenses at 1551 W North Ave in late March 2026, joining a cluster of URBN brand stores — Urban Outfitters, Free People, and FP Movement — all renewing on Milwaukee Ave in Ward 1.

Wicker Park's Milwaukee Avenue corridor is getting a lot busier. A Hyatt Place hotel operated by Nediya Inc. filed for a full suite of licenses at 1551 W North Ave in late March 2026 — retail food establishment, consumption on premises, outdoor patio, and a regulated business license — signaling a new hospitality anchor for the neighborhood's northern edge near Noble Square.

At the same time, URBN US Retail LLC — the parent company of Urban Outfitters, Free People, and FP Movement — filed license renewals for three separate storefronts along Milwaukee Ave: Urban Outfitters at 1521 N Milwaukee, Free People at 1464 N Milwaukee, and FP Movement at 1538 N Milwaukee. That's three URBN-family stores within a quarter-mile stretch, cementing the brand's grip on one of Chicago's most foot-trafficked retail corridors.

Ward 1 covers Wicker Park, Bucktown, and parts of Ukrainian Village and Noble Square — neighborhoods that have seen sustained retail and hospitality investment even as other parts of the city have struggled with vacancies. The Hyatt Place filing is particularly notable: hotel development in Wicker Park is rare, and a new property at North and Milwaukee would put it steps from the Blue Line and the neighborhood's dense bar and restaurant scene.
