District 5 — which covers the Haight-Ashbury, Hayes Valley, and the Western Addition — recorded 27 shoplifting incidents in February 2026, up from an average of 10 per month over the prior six months. That's a 170% increase, and the highest monthly shoplifting count in the district since at least mid-2024.
